03 / Preserve uncertainty
Current, Former and Unclear Records
Separate document sets by the employment relationship you understand. Keep an unresolved relationship visible instead of treating it as a confirmed match.
Sort generic record sets
Use only the preset generic labels. Do not enter names, account or contract numbers, balances, Social Security numbers, dates of birth or document contents. No files are uploaded and nothing in these worksheets is sent to the publisher.
Your generic worksheet
Rows are grouped as current employer, former employer and relationship unclear. These categories describe your organizing choice, not whether an account is open, active, closed or eligible for any action.

No worksheet has been saved by this page.
Start with generic labels only.
Edits remain on this page unless you choose Save in this tab. That button keeps only the worksheet’s generic values in session storage for this browser tab. Browser session restoration can retain a saved copy. Clear worksheet removes both the displayed worksheet and its saved tab copy. This tool does not use local storage.
The category is about context
A document associated with a former employer may still be relevant to the archive you maintain. A current-employer label does not show that every relevant record has been found. This sorter keeps the source context separate from conclusions about an account.
If a record-set alias needs to move, remove that row and add it again under the better-supported relationship label. The tool makes no recommendation about moving, combining, closing or changing any account.
Current employer
Use this for an employment connection you understand to be current. Confirm any record-specific question with the organization responsible for the record.
Former employer
Use this to keep a known earlier employment connection together. Preserve the document’s original source and date in your own archive.
Relationship unclear
Use this when a heading, date or employer link needs clarification. Uncertainty is a useful category and does not mean that a record is invalid.
