02 / Put work periods in order

Employer-to-Plan Timeline

A simple chronology can separate documents associated with different employment periods. Use year ranges and preset aliases only.

Arrange generic employment periods

Use only the preset generic labels. Do not enter names, account or contract numbers, balances, Social Security numbers, dates of birth or document contents. No files are uploaded and nothing in these worksheets is sent to the publisher.

Your generic worksheet

Rows appear in start-year order. “Current employer” and “Former employer” describe the relationship label selected here; neither label establishes an account’s status.

Start with generic labels only.

Edits remain on this page unless you choose Save in this tab. That button keeps only the worksheet’s generic values in session storage for this browser tab. Browser session restoration can retain a saved copy. Clear worksheet removes both the displayed worksheet and its saved tab copy. This tool does not use local storage.

Place documents beside a period

The timeline gives your archive a sequence. It does not determine service dates, eligibility, ownership or the terms of any retirement arrangement. Use only a broad year range that helps you organize copies you already hold.

An empty end year means “not recorded in this worksheet.” It does not prove that employment continues. If two periods overlap, the tool keeps both rows; overlap alone does not show a mistake or a duplicate record.

Keep returning periods separate

If the same employer alias appears in distinct work periods, use separate rows. A repeated alias is not automatically redundant.

Choose unclear when needed

Use “Relationship unclear” when the source of a document is not established. Clarify the connection with the appropriate record keeper.

Use dates for organization

These are employment-year markers, not birth dates, benefit dates or instructions about account activity.
